Collage New Music’s Julie I. Rohwein Fellows Program (2025-26)
Application Deadline: June 15, 2025 at 11:59pm
Collage New Music announces a call-for-applications for its annual Julie I. Rohwein Fellows Program, a one-year residency program with the Boston-based contemporary music ensemble Collage New Music over the 2025-26 concert season.
The Collage Fellow receives a commission of 7-8 minute work flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano and percussion to premiere with Collage New Music in Boston on November 2, 2025 (with a delivery date for the score and parts of October 1, 2025).
Additionally, the Fellow will assist Collage's General Manager and Artistic Director throughout the season in promoting the activities of Collage, including but not limited to, interviewing composers who are being performed, contributing to Collage's social media activity, and assisting during concerts. The fellowship provides the opportunity to get to know and work with Collage's musicians and artistic leadership, through attending Collage's rehearsals and public concerts.
The program is an opportunity for composers in early stages of their careers, residing in the greater Boston metropolitan area, to both get artistic exposure with Collage and also see firsthand how a new music organization operates. We both encourage composers currently enrolled as students in local collegiate and graduate programs as well as those who are working outside of academia to apply. We look for a Fellow who is not only an inventive composer but also an engaging communicator and a conscientious colleague. The Fellow will be provided a $1,500 honorarium for their work (inclusive of the commissioned work).
Since 2014, Collage New Music has hosted an annual Collage Fellows program aimed at providing composers in the Boston region the opportunities to hone their craft of composition, develop skills in community engagement and receive behind-the-scenes administrative experience with how a contemporary music ensemble is run.
To apply, please fill out the online application form, which will include a brief cover letter, resume/CV, and 2 to 3 compositions, including the audio recordings and scores (when available), and 1-2 references.
