Karyl Ryczek, soprano, has performed widely throughout the northeast corridor on the opera, oratorio and concert stage. Ms. Ryczek's singing has been described as informed, involved and dramatically expressive. A frequent soloist with the Cantata Singers, Ms. Ryczek has also appeared with Boston Baroque, the Monadnock Music Festival and the Warebrook Contemporary Music Festival. Ms. Ryczek made her Boston operatic debut with Collage New Music in the premier performance of Charles Fussell's opera, The Astronaut's Tale. Numerous concert appearances include such musical organizations as The Symphony by the Sea, The Concord Orchestra, and The New Bedford Symphony. Favoring the recital stage, Ms. Ryczek has enjoyed experiences at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the French Library, Lincoln Center's, Bruno Walter Memorial Auditorium, and the Edward M. Pickman Concert Hall. Ms. Ryczek sang the Boston premier of Aaron Jay Kernis' song cycle, Valentines, at the Longy School of Music and is often found championing the music of our living composers. Ms. Ryczek vocal role of Madame Dubarry in Roger Rudenstein's opera" Grace ". She has performed the widely popular Third Symphony of Gorecki with the Boston University Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Ryczek has performed the children's operas of Robert Kapilow, Green Eggs and Ham and Gertrude McFuzz, with the Hingham Symphony. Ms. Ryczek made her Symphony Hall debut with the Cantata Singers in a world premier of T.J. Anderson's Slavery Documents II and a remounted performance of Donald Sur's Slavery Documents. During the 2005-06 concert season, Ms. Ryczek premiered works of John Harbison in a performance of But Mary Stood, at New England Conservatory's, Jordan Hall and Sarah and Hagar, performed at the Hartt School of Music. Most recently Ms. Ryczek sang the role of Nitocris in a May perfomance of Handel's, Belshazzar with the Cantata Singers. Earlier this fall Ms. Ryczek premiered an American performance at the Longy School of Music, heralding the centennial celebration of Shostakovich and featuring the music of his student Revol Bunin. Ms. Ryczek has been a Fellow to the Bach Aria Festival and Institute, held at Stony Brook, N.Y. She is a finalist and the Bernard Taylor award recipient for the 29 th National Association of Teacher's of Singing Artist's Awards. In 1995, she captured lst Prize in the NATS Boston Chapter, Pro-Track division. Ms. Ryczek is the Chair of the Voice Department at the Longy School of Music, where she also maintains a teaching studio. Ms. Ryczek also serves on the voice faculty at Bridgewater State College. She has been a member of the Cantata Singers ensemble for twelve years. |
